What is therapy?

Therapy comes from the Greek θεραπεία for "healing." It is a treatment-attempted remediation of a problem.
Counselors provide talking treatments. If somebody is going through a difficult time or has an emotional problem, they can speak with a trained professional in a confidential and protected setting. A counselor can help you explore and understand your feelings, trauma, wounds, patterns, and other aspects of your emotional and mental health.
With therapy, it is possible to correct or change something that we find undesirable by talking it over and finding a new remedy, solution, or behavior.
It is a treatment intended to relieve or heal stress, anxiety, grief, depression, breakups, family troubles, changing careers, or losing a loved one.
Therapy helps a person become more aware of automatic ways of thinking that are inaccurate or harmful (like having a low opinion of their abilities) and then question those thoughts, understand how the thoughts affect their emotions and behavior, and change the behavior that no longer serves them.
Therapy is an act of caring for someone's well-being and good mental health. As a counselor, I try to create a safe environment, a healthy relationship with a client, and an environment that can enhance a positive corrective experience.
